National Electrical Safety Code
The National Electrical Safety Code has the rules and regulations that apply to electrical safety on T&D systems -- from generating stations to customer meters. (The National Electrical Code, or NEC, applies to electrical work from meters on into the customers’ premises.). So the NESC applies to transmission lines, substations, distribution lines, and metering. A popular section of the NESC for electric utility workers specifies safe clearances — the required spacing between conductors, between conductors and communication wires, between conductors and other objects, between supporting structures, and required spaces for climbing and working. Rules for system grounding is also an important topic covered in the NESC
